My thirteenth day at camp.

Today I woke up at 7:30 in the morning and had breakfast. After that, we cleaned all the dirty dishes, and at 10:00 AM, we started working on our poster for class. First, we worked on the methods, and then a man named Warren arrived, who is skilled at giving inspiring talks. We had the opportunity to speak with him in a circle, and it was truly moving to hear what he shared. Later, we had lunch, and after eating, we continued working on our posters, this time focusing on the results of our bacteria research. We also created a spreadsheet to classify the types of bacteria. Once the posters were completed, we took a short break. After the break, we had dinner. Once we finished dinner, we organized the used dishes and cleaned the area. Then, we took an exam and finally completed our reports. After finishing my report for today, I went to sleep.

My twelfth day at camp.

We woke up at 6:30 AM and had breakfast. After breakfast, we waited for our guides for the day. Once everyone was on the truck ready to leave, Aeden and I were sent to our guides' car. From there, we headed to our first destination where we met Brayan, who would be our guide for the day. He took us to a canal to measure water levels. Virginia and I were the first to enter the water to take measurements. We were provided with waterproof suits, but unfortunately, the one I was given was torn, and I ended up soaked. After measuring the first canal, we moved to another one. Due to rain, we had lunch inside the cars before proceeding to measure the water levels at the next canal. Again, I had to enter the water to take measurements, this time with Aeden. Despite the torn suit, I had to use it again as there were no replacements available. After completing measurements in one section, we had to walk to another, but my suit was heavy with water. I had to remove it to drain the water insid

My eleventh day at camp

Today we had to wake up at 6:30 in the morning. Then we went to have breakfast and saw a deer running across the river. After that, we packed our things to go to our next campsite. From there, we went to drop off Sandy at the Pasco airport. Afterward, we went to Starbucks and then to Walmart. We arrived at a park to have lunch, and after eating, we headed to our next destination called Wellpinit. Once we arrived, we waited for the truck because it carried our tents. While waiting, we visited a place in the park full of people making necklaces, bows, clothes, and other crafts. We explored the area a bit, and when the truck arrived, we set up the tents. After that, we had dinner, and once we finished eating, we gathered everything and cleaned up because we had to do science projects. After that, we went to sleep, and that was my day.

My tenth day at camp

My day started at 6:30 in the morning. The first thing we did was have breakfast before heading to a fish hatchery. Once there, after lunch, we were given a tour of the facilities, where they explained the water quality and other management aspects. The person who guided us is named Telt Branstertter; she specializes in collecting and replanting plants in specific areas, using methods such as the use of resticides and manual labor, sometimes complemented with machinery to control pests. Near the hatchery, there is a river full of animal life, indicative of its good environmental health. However, the presence of toxins could threaten this ecosystem. After the tour, we entered the hatchery facilities, guided by Jason Thomas, an expert graduate from the University of Idaho with experience in aquaculture. He showed us large tanks of fresh water directly from the river, as well as smaller ponds with fish aged 3 to 4 years old. Later, we helped Gale, who focuses on transplanting plants in ve

My Ninth Day At Camp

My day started at 5:30 in the morning. The first thing I did upon waking up was to start organizing my things because we had to move to our next campsite. Once I finished packing my clothes, we went to have breakfast. After breakfast, we began to dismantle the tents and load them onto the camper, along with all the other things that were outside. Once we finished packing everything, we went to the cafeteria to work on the posters about the bacteria we are culturing. After working on the posters, we went to a canal to collect water samples. Then, we started loading everything to head to our new campsite. We had a long road trip ahead, and it was indeed quite a long journey. Halfway through, we stopped at a gas station to buy some supplies. After that, we headed straight to our new destination, which is called Harris Park. Once we arrived, we set up the tents and prepared everything for the night. We also unloaded everything from the camper to start cooking. Once we finished unloading,

My Eighth Day At Camp

My day started at 5:30 in the morning, and honestly, I wasn't feeling well because I was dizzy and had some stomach pain. I also vomited, but the day went on, and I like visiting new places, so I tried to feel better and took some painkillers. Once that was over, we got ready to go explore the mountains, climb, and study rocks. Before leaving, we had cereal for breakfast and prepared our lunch for later. After organizing our things, we met the person who would lead us today: Bremman Martiny, who clearly enjoys and is passionate about his work. After meeting Bremman, we headed to our first destination, a group of rocks embedded in a larger stone that seemed damp with moss. Our goal was to break these rocks to see their contents, and I had the opportunity to break one. When I hit it with the hammer, it shattered into many pieces, indicating it wasn't very hard. The impressive part was that it had a white and shiny section. After that, my companions went climbing, but I didn'

My Seventh Day At Camp

I woke up at 6 in the morning to start preparing things for our next destination, Mitchell. Before leaving, we had breakfast and then headed to the bookstore to complete some work. There, I had the opportunity to call my family to greet them. After that, we ate in a park and visited a very interesting museum where I could learn about the life of Native Americans and the Old West era. It was a enriching experience for me, as I am not familiar with those cultures and enjoy learning about how they lived and what they did. Additionally, I observed various birds in the area and many otters in a pond. After seeing the otters, we enjoyed the beauty of the birds and then left the museum to head to Mitchell, our final destination. We were warmly welcomed, set up our tents, had dinner, I took a shower, and finally went to sleep. This was my seventh day of travel.

My Sixth Day At Camp

My day began at 6:30 in the morning. I woke up and the first thing I did was brush my teeth and organize my things for the day. Once I finished arranging my clothes and the place where I slept, I went to help prepare things for lunch. When I finished organizing, I sat down to eat with my companions. After lunch, we started loading things into the van to head to our next destination. Our objective was to help Marlo Fisher find some plants called pumicola. We were looking for these plants because they used to be abundant in the area, but now they are endangered. Marlo told us that he didn't know the specific role of these plants in the environment, but we were looking for them because they are currently very rare. First, we went to a place where we didn't find many pumicola plants. Then we went to another site, and indeed there were more there, as that place was better cared for than the previous one. After searching for the plants, we went to take a shower and then headed to the

My Fifth Day At Camp

I woke up in the morning and the first thing I did was take some pills because I felt very unwell the previous night. I also took some pills at night because I had a headache and stomach ache. After that, I had a bit of cereal for breakfast, but I didn't have much appetite because I still felt unwell. After lunch, I washed the dirty dishes and cleaned the campsite because we were going to visit lava caves. Before heading to the lava caves, we conducted a process called bacterial isolation, which basically involves placing bacteria obtained from rivers into separate samples to determine the types present in those rivers. Once that process was completed, we headed to the lava caves where our guides for the day greeted us: Sophia, Cynthia A, and Alex, who led us through the caves. They explained that the lava caves were cold and quite acidic. We were also informed that if we found a centipede, it would be a small gift. They provided us with lamps to illuminate the cave as it was very

My Fourth Day At Camp

Today we woke up at 5:30 because we had to go to another campsite. Before that, we had cereal for breakfast and also prepared breakfast for the day. Once I finished eating and making my breakfast, I went straight to wash the dirty dishes from lunch. After finishing washing the dishes, I gathered things to leave, like my clothes, blankets, and also the tent where I slept. Once everything was packed, we started loading things into the cars because we were leaving. During the journey to our new destination, which was quite far away, I fell asleep for a moment, although I couldn't rest completely because I felt somewhat nervous. Before reaching the campsite, we stopped at two stores to buy supplies. Upon arriving at the campsite, I set up my tent and organized my clothes inside it. After finishing with the tents, I had spaghetti and chicken for lunch. After eating, we went to take a shower, which lasted only three minutes due to the limited hot water, but it was enough since I really w

My Third Day At Camp

My day started at 7:50 in the morning. I woke up, tidied up where I slept, and organized my things for the day. Afterwards, I went out to have cereal for breakfast before heading to a place where we would have internet to publish our daily journal, which we are compiling day by day. Later, we returned to the camp to gather the necessary supplies for our next destination. In our attempt to get there, we found the access blocked by fallen trees, which led us to search for alternative routes. Eventually, we headed to a nearby small canal to collect water samples and measure its temperature. We assessed the cleanliness of the canal by observing its surroundings, which appeared to be a healthy natural environment. We then proceeded to our next destination, which I personally enjoyed a lot because we were shown an opening leading to the snow volcano, where cold air emerges from the hole. Additionally, the river was swift and filled with many logs that formed a natural bridge, allowing us to

Second Day At Camp

My day began at 5:30 in the morning. The first thing we did was have breakfast. After breakfast, we went to Block House Creek, a private location. Our purpose was to build some beaver dams. This fisheries project costs approximately 200 thousand dollars, and we are working with Janet Burkhard, who is a watershed planner, and Gerard Foley, who works for Mount Adams Resource Stewards. We arrived there at 9:12. Upon arrival, each person introduced themselves, including my colleagues and the people who would be helping us. Then, they explained what we were going to do throughout the day and showed us where we were going to start. The first thing we did was gather small sticks to start building the beaver dam. Then, we started placing the larger logs, which we had to fetch from a bit further away from where we were building. Generally, we transported them in groups of two or more people. Once the large logs were in place, Gerard and I started to set some posts. We used a machine to insert

My First Day At Camp

I woke up at 7:20 in the morning to pack my bags before heading to school. After saying goodbye to my parents and siblings, we prepared the things we were going to bring to the camp. Once we finished organizing everything, we departed from the university at 1:30 in the afternoon. I tried to rest for most of the way, but I couldn't because I felt somewhat nervous. However, not being able to sleep allowed me to enjoy some very beautiful landscapes. When we arrived at the campsite, we set up the tents for sleeping at night. After finishing setting up the tents, we received instructions about what we were going to do the next day from Teacher Black. Then we sat down to eat some hamburgers. This is my first day, and I honestly feel somewhat nervous because it's my first time going on an excursion .
